Procedure for obtaining a Japanese driver's license

 Procedure For Obtaining a Japanese Driver's License

A valid driver's license from your resident country itself is not valid for driving in Japan. In order to drive a vehicle in Japan. The following conditions are necessary:

1. You must have a valid driver's license from your resident country.
2. After obtaining your foreign driver's license, you stayed in the country where the license was issued for a minimum of three months(you need documents that certify your stay).
3. 
   Your address must be in Tochigi prefecture.
   • A foreign driver's license　※If you have any expired licenses after renewals, provide all of them
   • A translation of the foreign driver's license in Japanese (prepared by the embassy of your country or the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF))
   • Passport ※If you have any old passports after renewals, provide all of them
   • International driving permits (If you have any)
   • The valid Japanese driver's license -holder brings with the driver's license
   • The first applicant for Japanese license brings with
     　
     　　A certificate of residence with record of nationality or domicile of origin for a long-term or a midterm resident
   • 　　A whereabouts certificate for a short-term resident
   • The non valid (expired) Japanese driver's license-holder brings with it
   • In addition, your application for a Japanese driver's license needs a photograph (3cm×2.4cm) that was taken within the last six months

Is it true that we can get the information about the driver license in English ? Last time my friend Canadian couldn't get any information by English .
How should we do if we want to gent the English information ？ 

I think there is no staffs who speake foreigin language professionaly and answre the question.

Kanuma Menkyo Center (Kanuma Driver's License Center) ,how can you go?

You can go the center by bus. If you take a bus start from JR Utsunomiya station bus terminal ,you can go there directry. It takes about 30 or 40 minites by bus.

A valid driver's license from your resident country or an international driver's license itself is not valid for driving in Japan. In order to drive a vehicle in Japan, the following conditions are necessary;

１　You must have a valid driver's license from your resident country.

２　You must have obtained your license at least three months prior to moving or residing and applying for a Japanese driver's license.

３　You must prepare the following documents and a fee;

• A foreign driver's license
• A translation of the foreign driver's license in Japanese.（the embassy or JAF）
• passport
• A certificate of residence in Tochigi prefecture (e.g. an Alien Registration Card or a Residence Card)
• A foreign driver's license
  In addition, your application for a Japanese driver's license needs a photograph（3cm × 2.4cm) that was taken within the last six months.
  The application and photograph can be obtained at the Tochigi-ken Unten-menkyo Center (the Driver's License Center in Tochigi Pref.)
• A fee
  • A fee to apply;

    A usual car　2,400yen

    Up to 50cc　1,650yen

    Others　4,950yen or 2,950yen

  • A fee to deliver;　2,100yen
